How to Change Ethereum’s RPC in TrustVault x MetaMask
Changing the RPC (Remote Procedure Call) in your MetaMask wallet while using TrustVault ensures you can customise your blockchain experience, enhance performance, and improve privacy. Here’s how you can easily change the RPC settings in TrustVault x MetaMask.
Steps to Change Ethereum’s RPC
Open MetaMask: Launch your MetaMask wallet by clicking on the extension in your browser or accessing it via your mobile app.
Connect to TrustVault: If you haven’t connected your MetaMask to TrustVault yet, follow these steps:
Open MetaMask.
Click on the Connect Hardware Wallet option.
Select TrustVault and follow the prompts to complete the connection.
Access Network Settings:
Click on your account avatar at the top right of MetaMask.
Select Settings from the dropdown.
In the settings menu, choose Networks.
Select Ethereum Mainnet or Add a New Network:
You’ll see a list of available networks. If you’re looking to modify Ethereum’s RPC, select Ethereum Mainnet.
To add a new network, click Add Network.
Change the RPC URL:
Save Changes:
Click Save and the new RPC will be applied. Your MetaMask wallet will now interact with the blockchain via your custom RPC.
Why Changing the RPC with TrustVault is Important
TrustVault’s custom MetaMask plugin gives you enhanced control and flexibility by supporting custom RPC endpoints. Importantly, using a custom RPC endpoint can also provide additional security benefits. Here’s why this feature is critical:
1. Seamless Network Flexibility
With the TrustVault MetaMask plugin, you can connect to various blockchain networks, not just Ethereum. Custom RPC support allows you to interact with different tokens, decentralised applications (dApps), and smart contracts across multiple networks, while also offering the ability to switch to more secure and trusted RPC providers.
2. Enhanced Performance
Popular networks like Ethereum can become congested, resulting in slower transactions. By using a custom RPC, TrustVault’s MetaMask plugin enables you to switch to more efficient or private RPC endpoints. This results in faster processing and an overall better user experience, while ensuring your transactions are handled by trusted sources.
3. Increased Reliability
If the default RPC endpoint becomes unavailable or compromised, the TrustVault MetaMask plugin allows you to seamlessly switch to a different RPC provider. This ensures that you are not reliant on a single provider that could be vulnerable to attacks, enhancing the reliability and security of your wallet operations.
4. Stronger Privacy and Security Controls
Changing the RPC URL also enhances your privacy and security. the TrustVault MetaMask plugin enables you to choose a custom RPC provider that may offer better data protection than the default provider. Using a custom, more secure RPC endpoint can reduce the risk of third-party data tracking, protect you from malicious actors, and prevent RPC provider-level attacks, such as man-in-the-middle attacks. By controlling which RPC endpoint handles your blockchain interactions, you gain more security over your data and transactions.
5. Protection Against Default RPC Vulnerabilities
Default RPC endpoints are often the target of attacks due to their widespread use. By switching to a custom RPC, especially from a trusted provider, you reduce the risk of potential vulnerabilities that come from overburdened or compromised public RPC endpoints. This helps safeguard your wallet from security breaches or service interruptions.
6. Access to Custom Networks
In addition to the security advantages, the TrustVault MetaMask plugin makes it easy to connect to specialised blockchain environments. Whether it’s private networks, Layer 2 solutions, or experimental sidechains, the ability to switch to a custom RPC enables you to work in a more secure and controlled blockchain environment tailored to your needs.
